Captain Nanette McMasters started her new role leading the San Diego County Sheriff's Poway Station on Friday, Sept. 4, the City of Poway announced.

McMasters takes over for Captain Claudia Delgado, who was selected to lead the Sheriff's Major Crimes division.

The city's Facebook page confirmed Sept. 4 was McMasters' first day at the station.

McMasters began her law enforcement career in 1998 as a probation officer. She served as a deputy, sergeant and lieutenant at patrol stations across San Diego County, including Vista, San Marcos and the North Coastal stations. Along the way, she built experience across investigations, communications, backgrounds and recruiting, and personnel divisions.

Her most recent post was captain of the Training Division at the Regional Public Safety Training Institute, a law enforcement academy based at San Diego Miramar College. The institute serves agencies throughout San Diego County and beyond.

City Manager Chris Hazeltine praised McMasters' credentials and her commitment to Poway.

"… Just as important is her enthusiasm for being a part of our Poway community, understanding our city's partnership with local law enforcement," Hazeltine said in the city's announcement.

McMasters said she believes strong relationships and transparency are central to effective public safety. She said she is committed to ensuring Poway residents, businesses and community partners feel supported by the Sheriff's Office.
