Poway Road between Espola Road and state Route 67 will shut down to through traffic for three days beginning Tuesday, Oct. 27, while city crews perform routine maintenance on the Poway Grade.

The closure runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day: Tuesday, Oct. 27; Wednesday, Oct. 28; and Thursday, Oct. 29, according to a city of Poway alert. Drivers heading to or from SR-67 during those hours will be diverted to Scripps Poway Parkway.

Residents and businesses along the closed stretch of Poway Road will still be able to reach their properties, according to the city's public works department.

The San Diego Union-Tribune first reported the closure schedule on Oct. 21.

Part of a citywide rotation

The work falls under Poway's annual street maintenance program. The city divides its 165 miles of roads into eight zones and completes work in one zone each year, according to the city's public works department. Each zone covers roughly 20 miles.

This year's focus is Zone 1, which includes streets north and east of Espola Road from the city limits to south of Lake Poway Road. The city's pavement management system covers 36.5 million square feet of pavement across all zones.

The Poway Grade closure is a recurring event. A similar closure took place in November 2024, when the same stretch shut down for two days of maintenance.

How to stay updated

The city said it will post any schedule changes on its website at Poway.org and on its social media accounts.
